Maya Twardzicki is a Chartered Health Psychologist with considerable experience in health promotion and public health, including: managing innovative and award winning projects, training and strategy development, research and health needs assessment.

Maya has particular expertise in managing arts and health projects in both the NHS and voluntary sector. As well as developing and producing Cracking Up!, she has developed and managed the following projects:

Challenging Stigma and Promoting Social Inclusion through the Performing Arts
A partnership project for colleges and mental health services/organisations in which clients of mental health services share their experiences with students who then develop them into performances using drama, music and dance.

Evaluation showed that the project raised awareness and encouraged more positive attitudes towards mental health among students and audiences; and increased feelings of confidence and social inclusion among people with mental health problems. As a result of presenting the project at conferences and considerable interest from professionals to run similar projects, a toolkit has been published that provides a step-by-step guide to running this successful project in your area. To order the toolkit, please Contact Us.

The Pender Project 2005 by Box Clever Theatre
A short film made with dialysis patients and carers at Brighton Hospital, to help new patients cope with their diagnosis and treatment (nominated for a Health Service Journal Award).

Keep it Cool 2004-5
A school based drama workshop that explores and develops young peoples’ coping strategies for stress, through the use of sketches, discussions and exercises. Due to the positive evaluation and effectiveness of this project, it has been extended to schools across Surrey.

Comedian and writer John Ryan’s award winning health and social related comedy, is underpinned by ten years working in a community care setting and a Masters degree in Social Policy.  A specialist in this field, John is the only comic to have performed at HM Gartree and HM Downview Prisons and he also regularly performs for the British armed services.

The irresistibly amiable John Ryan uses his acerbic wit and seemingly encyclopaedic knowledge of the world around him, to keep any audience on their toes. His East End Irish upbringing gives him the rare ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds. No stranger to either the strange or the norm, he will put an amusing spin on any subject matter going. John has a reputation for thinking on his feet and confidently and cleverly adapting his show to any audience.

His high energy and warm personality makes John an ideal compere, stand-up and presenter at Comedy Clubs and corporate events.  He regularly performs at Jongleurs, The Comedy Club, The Comedy Club on Tour, The Comedy Store, The Glee Club, and internationally in sell out shows on cruise liners in the Mediterranean and Caribbean and in comedy venues in Ireland, Switzerland and Thailand.
